풀브라이트 장학 프로그램은 전세계적으로 잘 알려져 있고 가장 우수한 국제교육의 상징적인 프로그램으로서 지원자의 소속기관이나 지역, 인종, 종교를 초월하여 실력위주의 공개경쟁에 의해 선발하는 것을 원칙으로 한다. 한미교육위원단의 풀브라이트 장학금 수혜자 선발계획은 다음과 같다. 금년도 선발계획에 의하면, 학위취득과 강의, 연구, 영어교육, 미국학 연수 및 국제교육 등 모든 부문에서 새로이 장학생이 선발되며, 이미 학위를 이수중인 장학생의 연장을 포함하여, 수혜자 숫자는 약 250명을 상회한다. 지원자는 지원당시 한국, 혹은 미국(미국인 장학프로그램의 경우)의 국민이어야 한다. 풀브라이트 장학금 수혜자 수와 수혜조건은 미국정부와 한국정부가 책정하는 예산사정에 따라 변경될 수 있다.
미국 국무성의 교육문화국은 그동안 시행해오던 기존의 풀브라이트 교환교수 프로그램을 보완하기 위한 시도로 Fulbright Senior Specialist Program 을 새로이 고안하여 2001 년부터 시행한다 . 이 프로그램의 주된 목적은 미국과 여러나라 사이의 상호이해를 촉진하고 장기간의 협력을 이루어, 참가국가의 기관과 미국내 기관사이의 유대를 갖게 하기 위함이다 .
Senior Specialist 프로그램은 미국인 학자 및 전문가를 타국가에서 2 주에서 6 주동안 강연 및 자문을 할 수 있도록 지원하는 단기 장학프로그램이다. 미국 소재의 Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES)는 다양한 분야의 수혜후보자 명단을 작성하여 보유하고, 풀브라이트 운영사무국을 통하여, 타국가의 기관으로부터 미국인 학자를 신청 받아, 요청한 학자나 분야가 미국인 학자와 잘 부합되는지를 심사하여 수혜자를 선발한다.
미국인 학자 및 전문가는 다음의 분야에서 신청이 가능하다 .
인류학/고고학, 경영학, 신문방송학, 경제학, 교육학, 환경학, 정보기술, 법학, 문헌정보학, 정치학/행정학, 사회학 및 사회복지학, 미국학 (미술, 미술사, 무용, 경제, 정부, 역사, 문학, 음악, 대중문화, 연극), 도시계획학, 보건학, Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies.
이 프로그램의 경비는 미국 국무성의 교육문화국과 초빙기관이 분담한다 . 미국무성은 국제항공료 및 Honorarium (1일 $200) 을 지급하고, 초빙기관은 한국내의 숙식과 국내여행경비를 제공하도록 한다.

FLTA 프로그램은 미국의 대학과 고등학교에 개설되어 있는 한국어 강의를 강화하기 위한 목적으로 마련된 9개월의 비학위 과정프로그램으로서 미국무성이 재정적인 지원을 한다 . FLTA프로그램의 주된 목적은 수혜자로 하여금 미국내에서 한국어를 가르치게 하는 한편, 이와 동시에 수혜자가 미국학 강좌 및 영어교육관련 강좌를 수강하여 미국사회와 문화를 경험하게 하기 위함이다. 또한 동프로그램은 수혜자가 자신의 영어실력을 향상시킬 기회도 갖게 해주어, 프로그램 종료 후 한국에 돌아와 대학이나 중등학교에서 자신의 경험을 토대로 미국을 제대로 알려주고, 학생들에게는 영어를 더 잘 지도할 수 있게 하는 이중의 목적을 갖고 있다.
FLTA 프로그램의 수혜자 선발확정은 매년 5월이며, 수혜자가 미국대학에서 수행해야 하는 업무는 다음과 같다.
모든 구비서류의 제출마감일은 매년 7월 20일전 후 이며, 지원자는 아래에 기재된 구비서류를 한미교육위원단으로 우편이나 직접방문하여 제출해야 한다.
원서접수는 매년 7월 20일~25일 사이에 한미교육위원단에서 받는다. 지원자는 모든 구비서류를 접수 마감일까지 한미교육위원단에 제출해야 한다. 우편접수도 가능하며, 마감일 도착분에 한한다.
제출된 서류가 담당자에 의해 검토된 후, 서류전형이 있게되며, 이 전형에서 합격한 사람에게는 면접시험에 응할 수 있도록 서신이나 전화를 통해 면접일자와 시간이 개별적으로 통보된다. 이 면접시험은 접수해 8월말에 있을 예정이다.
이후의 전형은 미국에서 FLTA프로그램을 주관 및 운영하는 미국무성과 Institute of International Education (IIE)가 한미교육위원단이 추천한 지원자들의 서류를 심의하여 다음해 5월경에 수혜자를 확정 통보한다.
험프리 장학프로그램은 중견 공무원에게 미국에서 일년 동안의 학업과 전문연수과정을 제공하는 장학 프로그램이다 . 수혜후보자는 한국정부의 행정안전부, 교육훈련과의 추천을 받는다. 이 장학프로그램은 미래의 지도자나 정책 입안자들에게 미국의 사회, 문화 및 전문분야를 경험할 기회를 제공함으로서, 미국과 여타 참여국가의 전문가들에게, 지속적이고도 생산적인 유대를 위한 토대를 마련한다. 험프리 장학금은 여행경비를 포함하여, 1년간의 모든 경비를 지급하며, 영어실력이 충분치 못한 수혜자는 여름 영어연수의 기회를 갖게 된다. 이 장학금은 한국정부의 기금출연으로 운영된다.

미국의회는 미국을 포함한 아시아 태평양지역의 정부와 국민간의 상호 이해와 협력을 촉진하기 위해 동서문화센터를 1960년에 설립하였다. 이 센터는 국제적 성격의 이사회가 구성되어 있는 비영리 공공기구 이다. EWC의 주요재원은 미국정부로부터 제공되며 20개 이상의 아시아 태평양지역 국가의 정부와 사설재단, 개인 및 공공 기관들로부터 추가 지원을 받는다.
EWC는 상호협력에 의한 연수 프로그램과 대화 및 연구활동을 통하여 아시아-태평양 공동지역사회 건설을 적극지지 및 발전시킨다. 주력하는 분야는 이 지역사회의 제도와 상호수익 경제개발 및 전 지역에 걸친 중대한 문제를 협조적으로 해결하는 것을 포함한다. EWC의 연구프로그램은 이 공동지역사회의 상호 문화적 중요성에 주의를 기울이며, 경제, 정치, 환경, 인구 및 보건에 대한 연구활동에 중점을 둔다. 특별한 관심사는 태평양 제도(諸島)에 관한 문제이다.
EWC의 학위과정 장학금은 하와이 대학의 입학을 조건으로 한다. 그러나 EWC에 지원하기 전에 하와이대학 대학원과정의 입학허가를 받아야 하는 것은 아니다. 하와이대학과 EWC에 동시에 지원할 수도 있다.
EWC의 대학원 학위과정 장학금은 수혜자에게 EWC의 연구활동 (연구분야별 주제는 8월 중순 이후에 EWC 장학금 원서를 참고하기 바람) 에 참여할 기회를 부여한다. 또한 장학금 수혜자들은 미국을 포함한 아시아 태평양 지역에서 공동지역사회의 건설과 현대의 제문제를 초점으로 하는 토론회나 세미나에도 참석한다. 지도자 양성 및 상호문화연구에 관한 자격증 프로그램은 장학금 수혜자가 학위를 이수하면서 전공분야의 인접학문을 동시에 학위과정에 보충하기를 원하는 학생들이 선택할 수 있는 프로그램이다.
EWC 대학원 학위과정 장학생은 장학금의 수혜 시작 1년 전에 국제공개경쟁을 통하여 선발된다. 이 장학금은 가을학기가 시작되기 2주전인 보통 8월초에 실시되는 두주간의 오리엔테이션 프로그램과 함께 시작된다. EWC 장학금 수혜자는 이 오리엔테이션 프로그램에 반드시 참여해야 한다.

Scholars and professionals with appropriate credentials may apply for full or part-time lecturing in a variety of fields of study. Description
The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship ( ETA ) program places American college graduates as teachers in elementary, middle, and high school English classrooms in Korean schools. Beginning in 1992 with just eight grantees, the program now brings almost 70 Americans to Korea each year. The Korean Ministry of Education is particularly supportive of the ETA program for stressing the importance of placing native English speaking teachers outside the capital of Seoul in the less developed areas of Korea . ETAs in return feel that their efforts have more meaning outside of Seoul in areas where the people are not yet accustomed to seeing foreigners on a daily basis. Several ETAs have remained in Korea or opted to return in order to teach at Korean universities, work for international firms, or enroll in Korean graduate schools. Many attend U.S. graduate schools for study in international relations or Korean studies, and all have found that, as one former ETA said: "You never get Korea out of you."

Each year four American international educators are selected for a two-week intensive academic exploration of Korea, preceded by attendance at NAFSA where they meet their Korean IEA counterparts.
